On Saturday we attended RVA Fall Fashion Week’s “Day to Night” Party & Fashion Show at the Courtyard Marriott. There were drinks, vendors, and music dj-ed by RVA’s own Markus Gold. The looks showcased from four featured designers, almost all had some elevated streetwear elements. However, some looks were definitely standouts. These were my top looks from the day party:
These two looks are courtesy of local brand BANR. BANR describes itself as a “street meets the beach lifestyle brand.” Their profile on the RVA FW website reads;
“ Our brand is about taking action. No matter your hobby, or passion, just make sure you take action. Our clothing is meant to remind you and inspire you to do what it takes to make things happen and to make a change.”
Most of their pieces featured some sort of graffiti or writing with the brand’s name or other phrases and words over large hats and oversized coats. I LOVED their opening look with “RVA FALL FASHION WEEK” written across the ribbon of the hat in graffiti letters.
These looks come courtesy of the local designer brand Ka’ Mala. Their profile reads;
“Kamala Bhagat is a Richmond designer specializing in womenswear. Founder of her self name clothing label and co-creator of HouseofBhagat, she has coined her design style as Afro-Leisure a clothing interplay of Aftofuturism, a social, environmental and cultural experience projecting not only a look but a voice.”
This was clear to see, with the looks having a contemporary design contrasted with soft ethnic fabrics and amazing contemporary jewelry pieces on all of the models. The jewelry was definitely a standout from the Saturday show.
My favorite “street style” look from the show was definitely Justice Dwight’s look. You can always expect him to bring the color and he definitely did on Saturday. Most people think fall means strictly dark, muted colors but he wasn’t afraid to show off splashes of all the colors of the rainbow. The jumpsuit plus the platform shoes and hat brings it all together for a fashionable yet playful look.
